Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF or password uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser using a WebAssembly (qpdf) engine — your PDF and password never leave your device and nothing is stored on a server.

How strong is the protection?

PDFs are encrypted with AES-256, the strong encryption standard supported by all modern PDF readers. Anyone opening the file will be asked for the password.

Can you recover a password I’ve forgotten?

No. Because everything happens locally and nothing is stored, a forgotten password cannot be recovered. To remove a password with the Unlock option, you must know the current password.

What does Unlock do?

Unlock removes the password from a PDF you can already open — you enter the current password and get back a copy with no password. It can’t bypass a password you don’t know.
